At our agency, we understand the importance of therapy for those who are disabled so that they are able to live a more accessible life. Even more so, we believe such therapy can be offered through enriching activities that in turn also allow the disabled to pursue their passions and learn fun new skills. This is exactly what the Helping Horse Therapeutic Riding Program accomplishes for its students, which is why SureVest Insurance Group is excited to be supporting their mission.
The Helping Horse Therapeutic Riding Program provides physical therapy and occupational therapy disguised as fun for people with disabilities in the Triangle area. Trained volunteers lead the horses while one or more “side walkers” provide support and assistance to the rider according to his or her needs. Riders receive strength and coordination therapy while also learning horsemanship skills. In fact, they have trained participants for the NC Special Olympics since 1990. Some of their riders have brought home over 30 gold & silver medals and numerous ribbons throughout the years.
Giving disabled children and adults the opportunity to engage in a fun activity while also supporting their health and development is a very unique approach to therapy that the Helping Horse Therapeutic Riding Program has implemented.
