Racing to Beat Ovarian Cancer

After Melanie Parkins Bacheler lost her mother to ovarian cancer, she realized that many women are not aware of the affects of the disease and the financial toll that it can take on a family. She started the Gail Parkins Memorial Walk and 5k Run, now in its 14th year.

Every year, over 60% of women who get ovarian cancer die. Lack of awareness and mild early symptoms usually lead to a late diagnosis, which make ovarian cancer a “silent killer.” Melanie aims to engage the Raleigh community by raising awareness, providing financial support, and paying tribute to those affected by ovarian cancer.

9 out of 10 women who receive an early diagnosis for ovarian cancer survive. This is why events like the Gail Parkins Memorial Walk and 5k Run are so important to our community. Join us as we race to beat ovarian cancer!
